How to Play Baccarat

Dad Can Teach You How to Play Baccarat – Easy as 1-2-3!

It is actually very easy to learn how to play baccarat. Playing an online baccarat game is just as fun as playing it at a land-based casino, and once you learn the very easy point system of the baccarat rules, you’ll find that you’re a pro: you’ll not only know how to play online baccarat, but you’ll learn how to win at baccarat.

The Point System

The point system goes as follows: cards 2-9 are worth the face value (e.g., a 2 of hearts is worth 2 points), face cards: jack, queen, and king are 0 points, and the ace is worth 1 point. The point of land-based and online baccarat games alike is to get the highest possible amount, which is 9 points, in order to win. The worst hand is actually called baccarat, which actually means zero (4+6=10=0). It doesn’t matter whether you hit after your first two cards or stand pat. If you do stand (which assumes that you have an 8 or a 9), it is known as a natural hand.

Now that you understand the points system, then you basically know how to play baccarat.  There are a couple tiny extra rules you need to know (whether you decide to bet with real money or play free baccarat games). The “Player’s rule” is as follows: if the player’s first two cards total anything between 0 to 5, he draws a third card. If he has 6 or 7, he stands (and obviously, anyone (the player or banker) that has an 8 or 9 with the first two cards stands).

The “Banker’s Rule”

The “Banker’s rule” is a little more involved: the banker goes by the same rule as the player. However, if the player draws a third card, the banker must do the following:

  • If the player draws a 2 or 3 (with his third card), the banker must draw if he has anything between 0 and 4, and stand if he has 5-7.
  • If the player draws a 4 or 5, the banker must draw if he has anything between 0 and 5, and stand if he has 6-7.
  • If the player draws a 6 or 7, the banker must draw if he has anything between 0 and 6, and stand if he has 7.
  • If the player draws an 8, the banker must draw if he has 0-2, and stand if he has 3-7.
  • If the player draws an Ace, 9, or 10, the banker must draw if he has 0-3, and stand if he has 4-7.
